We were wondering what the secret of a great summer red wine is and we wanted to meet this challenge. This is how this easy to drink, low alcohol Kadarka was born. We vinified it as a white wine: fermentation at low temperature, bottling early. This style is trendy nowadays in the world, and we love it as well. It is worth chilling well. A perfect refreshment at the end of a hot summer day, while in the winter this Kadarka pairs well with a fish soup.

Kadarka is our heritage, but that is not the main reason why we love it. Its grace, delicate tannins and distinctive spicy character make it an excellent match with modern cuisine. Kadarka is a capricious variety, so we have set out to identify and cultivate rare and forgotten clones to improve its consistency. In our experience great precision and low intervention in winemaking are the key to preserving its unique character.
Pale colour, closer to the colour of “siller”. The nose shows red currant and cherry, while the palate is light, but complex with fruity and spicy flavours. Less tannin and subtle, playful acidity. Easy to drink, especially when paired with the lighter, but full flavoured dishes of our recent gastronomic era.

Story: Kadarka is the treasure of Szekszárd. We have been owning it for a long time and we love to think that our wine region gave proper home to the variety. We are lucky to have “a little piece of the Szekszárd of our grandfathers” – we have a nearly 100 year old Kadarka plantation.

Kadarka has a characteristic, lighter colour and the palate also feels lighter than that of other red wines, but you must not be deluded. This variety has a serious structure, probably the most serious of Hungary’s red varieties even though this feature is well hidden, however if you lay it down for years, you will discover the exceptional ageing potential of Kadarka. When we blend it with other varieties, we always keep the dominant characteristics of Kadarka in mind. We believe that good Kadarka wines need about 10% botrytised berries to achieve the unmistakable aromas of Szekszárd Kadarka.

Story: The photo was shot at harvest in 1935 and depicts the ancestors of the owner on the mother side. In the middle ‘Aszalai brother-in-law’ can be seen, who had been a peasant and became a wine merchant. He put on a tie even for a harvest! The leasure guy on the horse is another brother- in-law called ‘Szöszke’ – who is in fact the grandfather of the winemaker of Eszterbauer, Laci Pálinkás. And of course the wifes are there as well , and the girls from Gránicz family
– and one of them is the grandmother of the owner, János Eszterbauer.

This Kadarka is meant for every day with its primary aromas. Light, spicy and its acidity is in perfect harmony with all the other ingredients. The nose is intensely spicy, deep and complex. On the palate the same spiciness takes the lead accompanied by beautiful, fresh, crispy red berries. Easy drinking summer refresh- ment that reminds us sour cherry syrup.
