Budapest Wine Festival is really „the” program you can adjust your stay in Hungary to. It is the oldest wine festival in Hungary, the wine event of wine events, a huge wine tasting which will be organized for the 26th time this year. The setting, the Castle of Buda is part UNESCO World Heritage, the visit is an unforgettable experience in itself. There is a huge opposition to events held in the historic buildings, most of the regular events were „evicted” as a consequence, but Budapest Wine Festival was allowed to stay due to its long tradition and values.
More than Hungarian 200 wineries offer their new vintage wines to taste, and on the stage, all the four days will host different genre of music: Thursday pop music, Friday world music, Saturday jazz and Sunday folk.

Discover new wines, deepen your knowledge

Budapest Wine Festival has several side events, which are suitable for professionals or for the ones who are seriously interested in our wines.

Wine University is a two day set of masterclasses just before the wine festival in various topics, usually in a different location from that of the festival. (At the moment of our post the program is not known yet, but you will soon find it at the website of the festival).

Taste Hungary is the name of a set of theme routes which can guide you through the exhibitors to find out more of Hungarian grapes and wines. „What’s the secret of Tokaji Aszú? What goes into Bikavér (bull’s blood), a special red blend produced in Eger and Szekszárd? Where does the scent of Cserszegi Fűszeres or Irsai Olivér come from? What’s the difference between a light and a full-bodied Furmint? How is rosé, a definite summer favourite, made? These are the questions that will be answered at the Budapest Wine Festival, where guests from all over the world gather to learn about Hungarian wines from our best wine makers and producers” – say the organizers. Visitors should pick up Taste Hungary brochures at the cashier and start their routes.

A couple of wine couples – a witty way to taste yourself through the exhibitors. Some of them – not all of them – offer two glasses of wine for the price of one, and the two glasses are somehow interesting to compare. Probably the same grape, but different vinification. Same wine, but different barrel, same wine: still and sparkling, etc. The list of partcipating wineries will be updated on the website, and a booklet is available at the cashier.

Wineries – the „line-up” is not ready yet!

The list of exhibitors is tempting already, but there will be more signed wineries by September.

VinCE wine exhibition with masterclasses is an unforgettable wine event on 17–19 March, and its venue, the glamorous 5 star Corinthia Hotel Budapest gives it a special atmosphere. Wine experts like Jancis Robinon MW, Steven Spurrier, Warren Winiarski, Gary Vaynerchuk, Jamie Goode and many others have already participated in VinCE Budapest Wine Show – you should experience the unique Hungarian wines, and also the stunning selection of the wines of the world poured at the masterclass.

VinCE Budapest organizers take care of quality: wineries can apply only if they previously had at least 4 star (more than 18 scores out of 20) result at VinCE Magazine’s panel tasting. The 1000 quality wines can be tasted with one daily ticket, which costs only 45–51 euros – with your discount event less. If you are a wine professional, please write for professional 50% discount on the professional day: info@vincemagazin.hu

Tickets and more information: www.vincebudapest.com

Top Furmint wines and the new Furmint Glass by dr. José Vouillamoz

The flagship wine of Tokaj and also one of the most significant grape variety of Somló – has putting Furmint on the flag of Hungary proved to be a good decision? How about Furmint wines from other countries? It doesn’t matter how deep knowledge you have of Furmint, Dr. José Vouillamoz grape geneticist will tell you new things for sure! The wine list of the masterclass includes Furmint wines from Hungary and abroad as well (for example Furmint from Heidi Schröck, Burgenland, Austria or Verus, Slovenia). As part of the masterclass the audience will have a chance to discover the recently developed Furmint Glass as the best wine glass to make Furmint wines shine. Lőcse Furmint from Béres Vineyard will be one of the stars of the flight.

Grandiose tasting, grandiose wines – magnum bottles

On the first day of VinCE, 17 March, which is the so called professional day of the event, the very first masterclass is a grandiose one indeed: Liam Steevenson MW will lead a tasting where the same wine, same vintage will be tasted from a normal and a magnum bottle. Ruinart champagne by György Márkus, Recaredo cava by Ton Mata owner, Kreinbacher Prestige Brut by Norbert Bodorkós, a Provence aged rosé presented by Elizabeth Gabay, Terroir al Limit Priorat by its owner and Gere Kopár presented also by its owner and winemaker, Attila Gere. Do not miss this unforgettable tasting!

Elizabeth Gabay MW

Blending’ Bikavér’ of Szekszárd – how to create the blend?

Best cuvée-s are said to be better than the original wines before blending. Even if you find the ideal recipe, it is not meant for eternity, since vintages vary and so do the wines of the different vintages. Sometimes you need more Kékfrankos for its great acidity, sometimes you want more of the spiciness of Kadarka. Can you imagine how much of a challenge it is? Now you have the opportunity to look behind the curtain, learn everything about blending Bikavér with Elizabeth Gabay MW and Csilla Sebestyén Dip WSET, and try the mysterious procedure of blending! Here is the wine list of the exciting workshop:

Néhány izgalmas alternatív rendezvényt is bemutatunk!

ViniSUD, Montpellier, Franciaország

Dátum: Január 29–31.

Outsiders!

“A” szakkiállítás, a német precizitás megnyilvánulása, óriási seregszemle. Jónéhány magyar kiállító is jelen lesz (erről itt írtunk .

A görög borvilág sok közös vonást mutat a hazaival, számtalan helyi fajtával dolgoznak, amelyeknek az egyre kimagaslóbb minőség ellenére is nehezen találnak piacot.

The Real Wine Fair, London, Egyesült Királyság

Dátum: Május 7–8.

A rendezvény a London Wine Fair “hátán” nőtt fel, a brit fővárosba érkező nemzetközi szakmabelieknek kínáltak alternatívát a London Wine Fair mellett.

A spanyol borok legnagyobb mustrája, amelyre érdemes ellátogatni tanulás céljából. Nagyszerű része a rendezvénynek a galérián található Galería del Vino, ahol önállóan kóstolhatunk egész délelőtt.

Eszközök, módszerek, újítások – a hazai pezsgőkészítő borászatok számára különösen ajánlott! Látogatóknak kevésbé izgalmasak a vadonatúj degorzsáló-berendezések…

Wine Expo Poland, Varsó, Lengyelország

Dátum: Október 27–29.

Az óriási lengyel piac célpont a hazai borászat számára, ezért a kiállítás kifejezetten hasznos, ahogy ezt több borászat felismerte már, tavaly péndául részt vett a Bock Pince, a Kovács Nimród Winery, a Holdvölgy vagy a Vincellérház. A szakmai rendezvényt ajánljuk azoknak, akik Lengyelország felé szeretnének kereskedni.

Cabernet Day, Chardonnay Day, Furmint Day – there is always an occassion to drink great wine, if there isn’t we can make one. Our calendar is full of ’special days’, you should only print it on an A/3 sheet of paper, give it to someone accompanied with a bottle of wine, and celebrate again in 2017! The calendar is illustrated with a funny cartoon of ’Last supper of winelovers’.

We wish all of our readers and followers a very happy new year!
