Do you feel alone? Call your friends today! International Friendship Day is celebrated today, on the 30th of July. I have not even heard of Friendship Day until I came across a blog post of Dubicz estate in Mátra. Their journalist, Anna Winkler provides the readers with valuable content regularly – a great way of promoting Dubicz wines!

Too many best friends? No problem!

As Anna Winkler pointed out, Friendship Day originates in Paraguay, and later many United Nations personalities joined forces, and A. A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh has become the ambassador of the day. The writer also suggests different Dubicz wines to celebrate Friendship Day

Creativity rules

I admire creativity, for me it is one of the most important aspects. Nowadays, with the state-of-the art machinery, the temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, it is much easier to make decent wines than three decades ago. The competition is huge, and when it comes to choosing a wine, an X-factor is needed. The story, the person behind the wine, or (and) creativity. Dubicz is undoubtedly great at creativity, just look at the award winner labels. Each label immediately identifies the price range (black background is reserved for the single vineyard, premium wines), the grape variety, and some of them also give a hint about the character of the wines. Zsizsi, the sparkling wine features the bubbles in stylistic way.

The blog I mentioned above is also a stunning idea. In an earlier article we can find hike suggestions in the wonderful, mountainous Mátra wine region – I found some new routes myself, even though I hike a lot in Hungary. The post is in Hungarian, but Google or DeepL can help. Anyhow – Dubicz is winery worth visiting and following on social media as well.

Wine of the Week: Babarczi Olaszrizling 2020

Pannonhalma wine region is a place yet to discover, so why not start it with Babarczi Family Winery? For green winelovers: this quality wine is also available in Bag-in-Box!

Olaszrizling is the most widely planted white grape variety of Hungary and obviously it is highly popular. ‘Olasz’ means ‘Italian’, and probably the name origins from the fact that long time ago Italian wines were considered superior in Hungary.

As for Babarczi, this family estate is a great winery if you want to get acquainted with the grape variety. Pannonhalma wine region has cool climate, the wines are fresh and crispy, and the state-of-art technology used for reductive vinification preserves the full fruitiness of the grape. Bag in box (BIB) wine contest is open for registration

In Hungary bag in box is a relatively new phenomenon, but more and more quality wineries realize that BIB is not necessarily inferior to bottled wines, it is just a useful packaging when people buy wine for a big garden party or other events with expectable large consumption. In the growing competition in the segment a sign of quality might help the customers.

A relatively new French wine contest has announced the date of its third edition. The bag in box wine contest will take place in Toulouse, France organised by Amelovin company in partnership with the University of Toulouse and the oenologiststudents from Toulouse DNO (Diplôme National d’Oenologues).

In 2016 among 325 presented wines 97 winning BIB(s) were selected. They were rewarded by the ‘Best Wine In Box’ medal. The 3^rd edition contest will take place on 24 March, 2017.

Registration is open until 17 February, registration fee is 60 euros + VAT per sample.

The contest is open to all still wines, the wines presented in the contest have to be packaged in BIB(c), only containers of 3 and 5 litres are accepted.
