Eger Wine Workshop is a group of quality wineries in Eger wine region, however they are not only great at winemaking, but active and creative as well. They have just launched a bus route, which takes around winelovers to visit the wineries. It runs in every 90 minutes, and one ticket is valid for the whole day. It costs 2000 HUF (5.60 euros), and it contains vouchers which can be used at the wineries (the ticket is divided into 4 vouchers of 500 HUF, one voucher can be used at each winery, so actually the ticket is free). The bus leaves from Thummerer Wine Shop (in the photo) / Gál Tibor Fuzió wine bar, then it stops at ‘Szépasszonyvölgy’ (Valley of the Beautiful Women) where – among others – a tasting cellar of Tóth Ferenc Winery is situated. The next stops are St Andrea, Juhász and Bolyki wineries. It is operated during the summer every Saturday. Tickets can be purchased on board, both cash and card are accepted.

“Take note of Hungary, a country that’s capable of becoming one of Europe’s most fruitful and rewarding wine areas“ – says John Clarke on Independent.co.uk. He draws attention to the fact, that Hungary is much more, than the producer of “Queen Victoria’s favourite tipple”, sweet Tokaji. Dry Furmint and dry wines from other indigenous varieties – like Juhfark, Hárslevelű, Kékfrankos – should be on “every oenophile’s radar“. The Best Buy is Frittmann’s Irsai Olivér – “it may sound like something out of a horse racing form book“. Barta Öreg Király Furmint 2017 is also selected: “This example from the highest vineyard in the Tokaj region has beautifully balanced flavours of peach and mirabelle plum with soft oak notes and a long finish.“ Kovács Nimród Egri Csillag 2018 is a good example of the relatively new white blend of Eger wine region: “a beautifully fragrant and aromatic wine with notes of lemon, lime, apple and melon and hints of summer blossom.“ Heumann’s Rhine Riesling proves the fact that Hungary can make stunning wines from international grapes as well. “This light-bodied riesling comes from a winemaker with Bavarian roots who has been able to produce a top-class wine that’s refreshingly crisp and dry and yet retains those inimitable aromas of lime, pear and apricot.” Kardos Winery (Tokaj), Kikelet Cellar (Tokaj), Károly Kolonics (Somló), Franz Weninger (Sopron), Campanula (Transdanubia), János Bolyki (Eger), Tüske Winery (Eger) are also mentioned in the list (which contains 12 wines actually, but the more, the happier we are:)
