Kreinbacher Estate has gained its international fame with the méthode traditionnelle sparkling wines made in volcanic Somló wine region (just to mention the numerous trophies from Tom Stevenson’s CSWWC), but the estate dedicates equal attention to still wines made of local varieties as well. Juhfark is obviously the star of Somló, Furmint, the Hungarian flagship variety also feels at home on Somló mountain, just like Hungary’s most widely planted white grape, Olaszrizling. However less people now (outside Hungary), that Tokaj’s second most wellknown grape, Hárslevelű gives stunning examples on Somló as well. Kreinbacher has just released its 2019 of Kreinbacher Nagy-Somlói Hárslevelű. After whole bunch pressing, the wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks. “White flowers, some honey and quince arrive in the nose, while the palate shows an exciting harmony of white fleshed fruits and exotic fruits. Good balance, lively acidity. Friendly character that shows some mineral tones of the Somló terroir.“ Hárslevelű 2019 is now available as a special offer in a 6 pack from Bortársaság (‘Wine Society’), along with a bottle of Kreinbacher Brut Classic, Kreinbacher Rosé Brut, Kreinbacher Öreg Tőkék Bora 2017 (‘Wine of Old Vines’), Kreinbacher Somlói Juhfark Selection 2017 and Kreinbacher Nagy-Somlói Olaszriling 2019.

According to Zoltán Németi wine blogger on screwcapped.com Sauska Rosé 2019 from Villány is one of the best Hungarian rosé wines. “Poised, elegant, not a hair out of place. Crisp and refreshing, but acidity is integrated. There is some structure to it, well judged firmness that gives some length and seriousness without sacrificing lightness and drinkability. So enjoyable. A complete wine.” As for its value for 6-7 euros, he simply says: fantastic value, buy, buy, buy. We can only agree with him, and the same is true for the winery’s bottle fermented Sauska Rosé Brut from Tokaj region. The blend is made of Furmint, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Hárslevelű, and due to this unique combination of grape varieties the palate is exciting, refreshing and above all playful. The 9 grams sugar makes it a charming, easy to enjoy sparkling, and since it spent 15 months on the lees, there is no lack of integrated, fine bubbles. A sparkling wine full of zest, one that gives you impetus – which is finely expressed in this photo. So why not paint it pink with Sauska? If you happen to stay in Budapest, you can enjoy the blessing of express delivery by Bortársaság wine store.

Before Christmas wine magazines are full of ’what to buy’, ’how the find the perfect gift’ articles, but Bortársaság wine store concentrated on a more adorable topic: family. A recently posted article interviews winemakers with their son or daughter about their very first wine. Touchy, lovely, must read! Bortársaság is probably the most important Hungarian wine store chain with 20 stores nationwide and webshop, plus – what is more important – with a selection of wines with personality. Bortársaság, the word is a translation of British Wine Society, which was an example for the Hungarian founders. And this wine store is one of the few with a regular, functioning wine magazine, and the articles are even available in English! „It’s not a rare occurrence that during our winery visits to see sparkling-eyed young people plodding away next to the winemaker, initially observing from a distance, and with time taking part in the conversations more and more actively. Many of them grew up in front of our eyes and have become important figures in winemaking” – as we can read at the beginning of the article with the title ’The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree’. Several winemakers are asked, for example Attila and Andrea Gere from Villány (on the left) or Tamás and Bence Dúzsi from Szekszárd (on the right).
Read the whole article with fathers and children
