When it comes to Jackfall wines, there are no obstacles

Three years ago, our Hungarian Gettogether took place in Villány wine region, at the Castle of Siklós. A Polish importer accepted our invitation, I thought it would be nice to give him accommodation for the night. I called Bori – Borbála Jandrasics –, we were colleagues at Vince Magazine, so I called her, she discussed it with the owner, her father, and they provided the room for the Polish guy. I asked him how he liked the place, and he was fascinated. What is more, he was about to import Jackfall wines, he liked them so much. Unfortunately for him, the winery already had had an importer in Poland. A few weeks later he sent me an email: he bought some cases from the other importer, so finally – commented happily – he had Jackfall wines!

Life changes, Jackfall Cab Franc remains

Since then, life has changed. After her father’s tragic car accident Bori and her business partner, Imola Elektook over the management. It is hard work, thank God, as Bori commented, their winemaker is the same, András Köszeli, who gained experience in renowned wine regions like Tuscany, Napa Valley, and Provence.
I had the chance to taste their Villányi Franc (Cabernet Franc) last November at a dinner in Vaj bistro, it was stunning! The best wine in the line-up. Then, in February, I was presenting Hungarian wines at Wine Paris.Our little booth was quite popular, and once Aljoscha Wright head buyer of Oxford Wine Company came for a quick tasting. “Just one”, he said with a strict face when he came to my side of the booth. Out of the several red wines I picked up Jackfall Villányi Franc 2019. His eyes became wide and he exclaimed: “God, it’s amazing!”

Book a room in Tranquility Country

The team offers rooms in a typical Swabian mansion and in another building, a guest house as well. The mansion or ‘kúria’, as we say shows that living in the countryside can be stylish and somewhat noble. If you think of a Jane Austin scene, picture pretty ladies sipping their tea, you can find something similar here, though tea is less popular in Hungary. The pretty ladies might have sipped some wine…
The mansion and the guest house have different rooms, each room includes a private bathroom with a shower,while certain rooms are equipped with a fully equipped kitchen with an oven. TV, wifi, parking is also provided. The prices are reasonable, a room is less then 100 EUR for a night. The village, Kisjakabfalva (hence the name of the winery, Jackfall, the Swabian name) is tiny with a population of only 157 people! It takes only 15 minutes by bicycle to get to Villány, and of course you can rent a bike at Jackfall.
