Heimann tasting at Danu wine restaurant, Prague

Zoltán Heimann, alias the “Kadarka Man” will conduct a tasting at Danu Restaurant and Wine Cellar in Prague on 26 January. Zoltán will present some wines of Heimann Family Estate (Szekszárd wine region) along with wines his new line “Heimann & Sons” with Kadarka and Kékfrankos wines.

170 wines by the glass

Danu is a new (opened at the end of 2021) family-run wine restaurant and shop in Prague. It has a history: earlier the owners ran a place called Smaragd for five years (2015–2020) in another location, in Marienbad (Mariánské Lázně), in the west part of the country. Now the new place bears the name Danu referring to the river Danube, since the concept is to feature exciting wines from the countries of the Danube, thus we can discover gems from Hungary, Austria, Slovakia etc.

The wine list is serious: they offer 170 wines at the moment, of which all of them are available by the glass! The owners import the wines themselves directly from the wineries, and the Hungarian portfolio consist of 36 labels including wines from Heumann (Villány), Markvart (Szekszárd), Budaházy (Tokaj) or Sanzon (Tokaj) and some other wineries are to be included soon (the earlier partners of Smaragd).. If guests like the wines consumed with their dinner, they can also buy them, since Danu has a shop with wines and delicates like cheeses and wine jelly from West Steiermark (Sytria, Austria).

When a blogger loves a wine

Jan Čeřovský renowned Czech wine blogger has recently visited Danu and tasted Heimann & Sons Baranya-völgy Kékfrankos 2018. He was impressed by the wine, with its spicy-floral nose, which – as he reported – “a combination of a cheerful and approachable wine with more complex notes”. He appreciated the medium alcohol (only 12.5%), the juicy, fruity palate, the decent length and its ageing potential. As he commented, “it is ready to drink, but with ageing it will offer another dimension”. The blogger meant it seriously: he bought some more Heimann wines from the shop to try them again at home…
