Koch Winery has its main estate in Hajós–Baja wine region, but they have a vineyard in Villány wine region with more and more importance. Pálma Koch, the founder’s daughter is in charge of the wines here, and in June the first large event of the estate will take place. Live music, white, rosé and sparkling wines, relaxed atmosphere, dinner and dance await guests.

Friss & Jazz

The name Friss (‘Fresh’ in English) refers to a range of wines of Koch Winery. Koch Frisch (with German spelling) wines are easy drinking, refreshing wines with reasonable price.

Erdőbénye is a picturesque, tiny village in Tokaj wine region, home of several wineries, which help each other in many ways, for example each of them recommends the others (with useful pieces of information, like how far the next winery is on foot or by car).

“Bor, mámor, Bénye” is an annual cross cultural happening: the wineries organize music and art programs on their premises. This year to play safe wineries will conduct tastings, concerts or other activities mainly outdoor and / or for small groups. The whole festival is free this year, the whole event is going to be very relaxed and informal, guests can walk from one courtyard to the other.

“Those who receive from life somehow have to give back. Those who start something, from then on owes responsibility.”

This philosophy characterizes the life and work of Béres family, one of the most important wineries of Erdőbénye. Béres Vineyard and Winery is a regular host with diverse activities – two years ago for example they held a star gazing session with a team of professional astronomers –, wine tasting is of course included. This year nothing is sure, but the event will be held – check event website for actual details.

Hungarianwines.eu will organize “the garden party of Hungarian wine” again, on 16 August. It is a lucky date – in Hungary events are allowed only after the 15th August. The venue is Patricius Winery, which happens to celebrate its 20th birthday this year. 300 invited winelovers and professionals gather to enjoy great wines presented by the exhibiting wineries: Babarczi Winery (Pannonhalma), Borbély Winery (Badacsony), Grand Tokaj (Tokal), Lajver Wine Estate (Szekszárd), Sauska (Tokaj), Tóth Ferenc Winery (Eger), Vylyan Vineyard and Winery (Villány), Zsirai Winery (Tokaj) and three more wineries are not confirmed yet. Zsuzsanna Babarczi will represent her family winery: a good booth to start the tasting. The crispy, fresh reductive white wines of the winery are made with good hands, delicious, juicy, balanced wines. The winery also started to make red wines, which became immediate success – it is highly recommended to taste their Merlot.

Mikszáth Kálmán square is indeed one of the most popular in the Hungarian capital, no wonder Borjour event team has picked the location and has already organized several open air festivals here. Now Hungary is more or less open, people are hungry for events, so Borjour will hold its opening wine festival tomorrow (12 June) at Mikszáth square. 6 wineries will present their wines: Vesztergombi (Szekszárd), Pajzos (Tokaj), Csányi / Teleki (Villány), Jackfall (Villány), Fülöp (Neszmély) and Tűzkő Estate (Tolna wine region). This latter one will pour several light, refreshing summer wines: Tűzkő Banka Grüner Veltliner 2019, Tűzkő Riesling 2019, Tűzkő Banka Cabernet Franc Rosé 2019. This rosé is especially exciting, since there are not many varietal Cabernet Franc rosés available (read more about Banka Rosé here). Tűzkő will also present its more complex wines, like Tűzkő Chardonnay Barrique 2016, Tűzkő Talentum 2015 or Tűzkő Domb 2017. Tűzkő Domb is a multi-award winning blend made of 70% Cabernet Franc and 30% Merlot. “Deep colour, full bodied, matured wine rich in refined tannins. Thanks to the two varieties fruity and spicy notes meet, and the blend is made complex with some discrete barrel ageing and 10 months of bottle ageing. Refined, integrated tannins with the deep, warm character of Cabernet Franc and the velvety and chocolate character of Merlot.” So if you happen to stay in Hungary, or you are allowed to enter in Hungary without restrictions (citizens of Serbia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Austria, Czech Republic, Germany and Croatia), just walk to Mikszáth square on Friday afternoon (4 pm – 10.30 pm) and enjoy the wines. Entrance is free of charge, glass should be hired and wine samples are to be paid at the winery booths. (Social distance will be kept during the tastings.)
