Homola, a true gem on the north shore of Lake Balaton

As written above, over 30 wineries (or their US representatives) will pour their wines, and Homola Winery from the village of Paloznak is definitely one you don’t want to miss. The wines of the estate to be tasted:

– 100% Balaton, 2024 (white blend)
Don’t worry, it is not the taste of the water of Lake Balaton, but the most typical varieties of Balaton region. “A captivating fruit-forward blend from the Balaton Wine Region, featuring aromatic, local varieties: Tramini, Szürkebarát, Olaszrizling, and Sárgamuskotály. This wine showcases vibrant tropical fruit flavors with a subtle touch of saltiness, complemented by a crisp, fresh acidity.”

– Homola Cuvée Me, 2024 (white blend)
An elegant white wine made of Olaszrizling (Welshriesling), Rhine Riesling and Furmint. It is primarily made from grapes grown in different parts of the village of Paloznak, where the soil is predominantly red sandstone and marl, which is characteristic of the region. From 2023 onwards, the vineyards will be converted to organic farming and the grapes will be harvested by hand. The winemaking process uses natural and modern methods, ensuring that Cuvée Me contains pure terroir.

– Homola Kékfrankos Tihany, 2018 (varietal red wine)
Varietal red wine made of Kékfrankos, even though nowadays Balaton is more a white wine region. Yet, recent successes prove that the climate of the large, light blue lake combined with the unique soils of Homola winery of red sandstone, limestone, marl and basaltic tuff, this latter especially in Tihany, where the grape for this wine comes from. “This unfiltered Kékfrankos is the fruit of a 30-year-old vineyard in Tihany Peninsula on the shore of Lake Balaton. A real volcanic wine as here the soils are mainly composed of basaltic tuff. The wine was fermented spontaneously in open-vats and aged in large barrels for 24 months. The result is a handcrafted charming and complex red wine with an elegant acidity and a long finish.”

Thanks, US friends for tasting Hungarian wines!

We – Hungarianwines.eu – are proud to have a role in:
A, Credo Imports finding Hungarian wines to ship to the US and
B, bringing Elizabeth Smith to Hungary for the first time.

It is just amazing to see the fruit of our work – these two have found each other (with our help again) and this morning thousands of winelovers in the US received a newsletter with Elizabeth’s article describing the three newly imported wines (Wine Bulletin and Elizabeth Smith newsletters).

Elizabeth Smith about Credo Imports:

»“Bringing something unique to the table” – and their focus is family-owned wineries and underrated wines from regions like Hungary. Three of their latest imports spotlight the diversity and remarkable value of today’s Hungarian wines from wineries that are pushing the boundaries of traditional winemaking.«
