Csetvei RAWka orange wine, Mór, Hungary

The Foxy Lady from Mór

RAWka by Csetvei Cellar

The song in the title is said to be the most crafted song of Jimi Hendrix. So is RawKA, one of the most complex wines of Csetvei Cellar, another fruit of Krisztina Csetvei’s experimental spirit. Unfiltered, unfined orange wine made of 100% indigenous Ezerjó grape.

RawKA – an animal to be tamed

The English word ‘raw’ obviously refers to the vinification method with not much intervention (no filtration, no fining, no added sulphur). ‘Ka’ in Hungarian is a diminutive suffix, it can refer to the small amount of the bottles of the wine. And if we pronounce the name [ro:ka], we receive a Hungaian word (‘róka’), meaning fox, hence the little carnivorous makes more sense on the label, escpecially due to its corresponding colour. As Krisztina comments, this is a wine yet to be tamed.

Organic and natural

The grape comes from Vénhegy, an organic vineyard. Hand harvest in mid-Spetember, ripened, shrivelled berries. The grapes were left on the skin for a week with being cushed 3 times a day. Then after gentle pressing the wine aged partially in 5 hL barrel and stainless steel. “Intense orange colour, serious acidity and sense of tannin. Aromas of walnut, hazelnut, herbs, while the palate is dominated by sweet and salty and simultaneously tart notes. A hint of nutmeg, blood orange, grapefruit. Very complex, vibrant, continuously developing wine.”
