’Golden rain’ on Somló hill – IWC results are out!

9 Hungarian wines were awarded medals by the British wine contest, International Wine Challenge: 2 bronze, 4 silver and 3 gold medals were given. Tornai Winery from Somló proved to be the most successful Hungarian winery at the contest with 2 gold and 2 bronze medals:

  • Kővágó Furmint, Grand Tokaj, Tokaj, 2015 Silver medal
  • Grand Tokaj No. 8., Grand Tokaj, Tokaj, 2015 Silver medal
  • Chateau Imperial Tokaj, Tokaji Aszú 3 Puttonyos, Tokaj Hétszőlő, Tokaj, 2008 Silver medal
  • Stephan’s Crown Tokaji Aszú 5 puttonyos, 2013, Copestick Murray Wine Solutions, Tokaj Silver medal

The International Wine Challenge (IWC) owned by William Reed Business Media is now in its 34th year. The IWC is accepted as the world’s finest and most meticulously judged wine competition which assesses every wine blind and judges each for its faithfulness to style, region and vintage. Throughout the rigorous judging processes, each medal-winning wine is tasted on three separate occasions by at least 10 different judges and awards include medals (Trophy, Gold, Silver, Bronze) and Commended and Great Value awards. Regular judges ensure the quality of the contest like Sarah Abbott MW, Tim Atkin MW, Dr. Jamie Goode, Charles Metcalfe among others. Over 15 000 wines are entered annually from over 55 countries.
