When a Japanese lady loves Hungarian wines

Sabar wine tasting in Tokyo and Budapest

Hideko Papp is a Japanese wine expert married to a Hungarian man, thus she spends part of her life in Hungary. Not long after her first arrival she fell in love with Hungarian wines, and since that she has visited wineries, has participated in wine tastings and has been writing constantly about Hungarian wines in her magazine called Fino Magazin (the name is a pun, finom means delicious in Hungarian).

Sabar in Tokyo

Sabar hill is a smaller hill in volcanic Badacsony wine region on the north of Lake BalatonSabar Estate is a relatively new winery with great ambitions and marvellous wines – within a few years they have become the favourite of many keen winelovers of refined taste. Sabar Rhine Rieslings and other white wines are fabulous wines, and according to Hideko they would perfectly fit Japanese gastronomy. To convince Japanese key players Hideko and her business partner will organize several tastings in Tokyo. The first one will take place on 11 May with invited importers, and it will be followed by several other events. We try to do our best for promoting Hungarian wines to the participants of wine industry and wine lovers in Japan. Only few Japanese know about Tokaj sweet wines, and almost nobody has heard of Hungarian dry wines. They believe Hungarian wines are all sweet wines, so we want to change their image of Hungarian wines!” – says Hideko.

Sushi and Sabar – tasting in Budapest

A special wine dinner will prove to Hungarian based connoisseurs in Budapest that Sabar wine really match Japanese dishes. Sushi Sei Japanese restaurant will have a special wine dinner on 23 May at 7 pm. Kusumoto Seiichi, chef of Sushi Sei tasted Sabar Kéknyelű and loved it, therefore he created a special sushi menu for Sabar wine line-up. The wine dinner costs 17 500 HUF (56 euros) with 6 courses and the matching wines including the fabulous Kéknyelű. A flowery nose with clean and fresh appearance. On the palate it is zesty with vivid, crispy acidity. On the palate we can discover the notes we have found on the nose: flowery, fruity. A most enjoyable, elegant wine with perfect balance.”
