A new Hungarian wine on The Fat Duck wine list

Heston Blumenthal is the father of molecular gastronomy, but his iconic restaurant, The Fat Duck is also famous for its vast, carefully selected wine list. Now a great dry white wine, a Furmint from Veres vineyard was added from Zoltán Demeter, a well known natural wine grower of Tokaj. With this item now there are two Hungarian wines on the 40 page wine list, the other is the other main grape variety of Tokaj, ’Hárslevelű’ from István Szepsy. There are two wines from Slovenia (Movia) and four from Austria, none from Romania or Bulgaria. Zoltán Demeter was awarded the Winemaker of the Winemakers in 2007, and his estate was chosen the Most Popular Winery in the same year. The fruit for Furmint Veres 2015 is harvested from thirty year old vines in the village of Mád. The soil is zeolite which gives amazing crispiness to the wine. It was fermented and aged in stainless steel only.
