Pre-order of Gere Kopar 2018 begins
Not many Hungarian wines are put on pre-order sale, and ‘not many’ is euphemism. There is just one – Kopar (other wineries have tried to use this way of selling, but Kopar is the only one to use pre-order scheme from year to year).
As Andrea Gere explained to Bortársaság – the distributor of Kopar –, there are two kinds of great vintages. The hot years, like 2017 give powerful wines full of everything, while other years, like the new 2018 vintage are about subtle details, nuances and finesse. And some years are not great at all, in those years Kopar is not made. 1997 was the first vintage of Kopar, and since the wine has only been bottled in the best vintages, this is its 17th edition.

The evolution of Kopar
“The early bottlings may seem a bit rustic but after the millennium the wines become rounder and softer, supplemented with the hallmark structure and finesse to spare. Oak management has improved but what is perhaps even more important we have moved towards a more conscious approach to farming practices over the past decades and this resulted in grapes of even finer quality. Starting from 2010 the vineyards are farmed organically and yield control is stricter than before. Today’s Kopars come from vines yielding just 5-6 bunches.“
Kopar 2018 is made of 50% Cabernet Franc, 40% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes came from Kopár, Konkoly, Csillagvölgy and Ördögárok vineyards. Fermented with its own yeast in vat and wooden vat, aged in 300 L new oak (Zemplén oak, Hungary).
Kopar 2018 is to be ordered in 12-bottle-cases. Price of 12 bottles: 74.400 HUF (205 euros)
In case of ordering 24 bottles, the customer will receive a Gere Kopar 2018 Magnum.
