The Americen wine expert, Jeff Jensen (on the right) is a great ambassador of Hungary, he is familiar with our grape varieties and he writes reviews frequently. The one we are sharing now was posted some months ago, but since spring is coming closer, it is high time to mention white wines. Jeff tells us how Egri Csillag blend is made and gives an example (Gál Tibor Winery), explains that Austrian Grüner Veltliner is also used in Hungary, and recommends a beautiful Chardonnay made by Kovács Nimród Winery in Eger. „Much of the Chardonnay produced in the country is aged in Hungarian oak barrels, which impart spice and toast notes to flavors of apple, lemon and pineapple” – says Jeff Jensen, and indeed, KNW Chardonnay was aged partially in French and also in Hungarian oak. „Made in a classical Burgundian style, our 2015 Chardonnay Battonage expresses the unique terroir of our Nyilasmár and Nagyfai Estates (Monopole) with distinct minerality, fresh fruit flavors of pears and apples with light buttery and toasty oak notes.
