Hungarian sparkling among the best Champagnes!
Hungarian sparkling among the best Champagnes!
The largest wine competition, the UK based Decanter World Wine Award has just published its full results, and Hungary is proud to announce that out of the 149 Platinum awards 4 went to Hungary. At the grandiose contest altogether 16.903 wines from 61 countries were evaluated by 275 judges, and apart from the Platinums 240 gold, 3454 silver and 7079 bronze medals were awarded. Hungary is expected to win in dessert wine category, but the country’s versatility is proven again: besides a Sauska Tokaji Aszú 6 puttonyos 2013 and Szent Tamás Mád Late Harvest 2016 a dry white – Figula Köves 2016 – and a méthode traditionnelle sparkling wine – Kreinbacher Prestige Brut also won the highest award. Kreinbacher Prestige Brut repeated its success: the winery won Platinum with the Prestige Brut last year edition of DWWA as well! This year only 11 sparklings could achieve the highest award, thus the Platinum is an acknowledgement of the fact that Somló terroir and Furmint grape have every reason to be among the top names of the world. Congratulation to the Hungarian winners! (Soon we will come back with more DWWA analysis.)
