The stars of the Formula 1 at the Buddha-Bar Budapest

Celebrate the pilots with Hungarian sparkling wines!

Buddha-Bar Budapest is located in one of the most fascinating buildings of Budapest. Klotild Palace is a breathtaking neo-baroque building built on the order of Archduchess Klotilde, daughter of Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph in 1899. Buddha-Bar Budapest 5 star boutique hotel opened in 2012, and since then it has been awarded the most prestigious acknowledgements of the trade. The historic building gives an extra touch to Buddha-Bar concept, which is present now in 28 countries, and “combines the quintessence of French excellence with Asian well-being, wisdom and hospitality”.

Party with the celebrities

The next race is to be held on the 29 July in Mogyoród, 19 kilometres from Budapest. Some of tickets are sold out, but there are still plenty available. And if you follow the race, you will enjoy the party as well afterwards! Buddha-Bar Budapest has been the host of the Formula 1 after party for a couple of years, and this year again the bar is preparing for and endless night: “At the hottest event of Budapest’s nightlife, pulsing beats will be provided by an international DJ line-up, and guests are invited to party along with Hungarian and international celebrities and the F1® drivers and heroes who have all attended the party in past years. Why would this year be any different? Check out last year’s event here! ”Buddha-Bar has a tempting wine list with a great Champagne selection, but now we are going to recommend Hungarian wines matching the stars of motorsport.

Pilots paired with wines

Sebastian Vettel is at the top of the tabella recently. If he wins again – and according to Damon Hill he will –, he will have every reason to celebrate. “Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton have always been fierce competitors on the track and there’s been a fair share of speculation that the pair don’t get along. But when it comes to defending professional integrity, it seems like Vettel will put any rivalry aside.” –writes Tom Head sport reporter in TheSouthAfrica.com. He definitely deserves the greatest sparkling wines, and Garamvári Furmint Brut is a noble one with several awards. “Character-based fruitiness of the varietal can be sensed alongside the dynamic acids. Quince, citruses, mango tastes combined with sweet spices like cloves and cinnamon.”

Lewis Hamilton is closely behind Vettel, the difference is only one single score. The four-time champion British racer is the highest earner sportsman in his country. Once he was invited to the Buckingham Palace to dine with the queen. “I got invited to a lunch and was sitting next to The Queen. I was excited and started to talk to her but she said, pointing to my left, ‘No, you speak that way first and I’ll speak this way and then I’ll come back to you.’”Though he needs to improve his table manners, he is a real gentleman, so why not cheer him with Sir Irsai, a white, aromatic gentleman from Haraszthy Winery. “A blend based on authentic varieties. A nicely balanced wine manufactured for slow drinking. On the nose, the Irsai Oliver’s muscat and litchi aromas are accumulating with the elderflower characteristic. On the palate, the Királyleányka’s floral and fruity tastes are dominating.”

Kimi Räikkönen is only the 3rdon the tabella, but his team, Ferrari is on the top of constructor tabella. This season saw an unlucky event in Bahrein in April: the Finn broke the leg of a mechanic during a pit stop due to wrong signal of Ferrari. According to sport journalist Scott Mitchells, despite of this in his best shape this year, he really “feels” the car. The Finnish racer himself is involved in the drinks business himself, he advertised a Finish long drink called Hartnell Original Long Drink in 2016. He likes the characteristic of the drink, which is made of gin and the word’s purest water. His refined taste deserves a rarity: Gróf Buttler Viognier from Eger! “Unique Viognier from the iconic Nagy-Eged vineyard with perfumer, floral nose, rich and elegant texture and mineral finish. Only 1150 bottles were made.”

Formula 1 race in Hungary

Hungary first hosted a Grand Prix in the 1930s, but following the Second World War and the building of the Iron Curtain it was not until the 1960s that motorsport began to find a place in the country. At the start of the 1980s there was a general wish for a Grand Prix to be held behind the Iron Curtain and negotiations took place with the Soviet Union with a view to a race being held in Moscow. In the summer of 1983 however, the attention of the Formula One decision makers turned away from Moscow and towards Budapest in Hungary, whose national sporting authority was keen to put the country back on the map of global motorsport. The track opened in 1986 and it held its first Formula One event in August that year. It was a huge success and almost 200,000 fans showed up.(Excerpt from the official website of Formula 1 Hungary)
