The largest open air wine tasting takes place every year in the spectacular setting of the Castle of Buda. The building complex used to be the home of kings and queens, and now it is part of UNESCO World Heritage. The gracious palaces, fountains, cobble stoned squares serve as a unique setting for the annual monstre wine fair.

An absolutely blind tasting

Apart from tasting at the exhibitors’ booths, you will have several exciting programs, like the Wine Quiz Bar sponsored by Butlers, where you can check your knowledge, or the Invisible exhibition wine tasting, which will show you how important the perception of your eyes is. Invisible exhibition is a permanent exhibition to guide people with good eyesight into the dark world of the blind. You have to touch your glass, drink and enjoy your wine without having any visual information of it. The unforgettable experience is really worth trying!

Kristinus wines at the Budapest Wine Festival

The modern, state of art winery makes fresh, lovely wines in a wide range. Taste their a reated Krisecco, the aromatic whites, the fruity rosé, or the more complex Sommelierline. Pinot Noir Sommelier Line 2015 is a beautiful example of the variety. „Clear and day bright ruby colour with brick coloured reflexes. The viscosity and tearing is high intensity. After some sniffs the wine is changing a lot. Matured and cooked strawberry with jammy character of red fruits and also some forest minerality is coming. Cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves are also strong elements of the wine. Complex nose with warm spices and moderated barrel notes. Pretty much the same on the palate after some air contact in a bigger glass. No regret after the name. A perfect gastro-wine has been born. If there is no chance to decant, let’s try it from a Riedel 001 glass! Great Pinot Noir experience with a huge ageing potential.”

Where, what, for how much

The enter the festival you have to purchase a ticket, which costs 3400 HUF (10.50 euros) ont he spot, but only 2900 HUF if you buy them in advance before 2 September.

The festival is open from 14.00–24.00 (Thursday and Friday), 12.00–24.00 (Saturday), 12.00–22.00 (Sunday).

You can easily get to the venue by Bus 16 from Deák square or Buses 16, 16A and 116 from Széll Kálmán square, or you can enjoy the ride ont he Castle Hill Funicular from Clark Ádám square.

At the festival you have to pay for the samples, and for that you need a FestiPay card, available at several places within the venue.
