2017 Friss Zenit won the tender of the Finnish alcohol monopoly Alko for volcanic wines. 27 wines participated in the tender, and the Somló wine preceded prestigious and renowned wine regions like Etna, Columbia Valley, Washington Valley and Tokaj. In Finland, alcohol trading is state monopoly, thus only shops with special licence can sell beverages with an alcohol content of more than 2%. These are operated by the state owned Alko, so in Finland you can buy wines acquired by this company. Alko is constantly looking for new products to enhance its stock, and with those from that they have sold enough quantities, they expand their product range. New products can only be only be chosen by tender. Tornai applied for the tender of volcanic wines and became the first. As a result from February Friss Zenit will be available in Finland. As the winery has been informed, the decision was made on the basis of excellent quality along with the good price and the favourable characteristics of the variety. Zenit is an increasingly popular variety in Hungary and abroad. It was created in Hungary in the middle of the 20th century, and it offers particularly good wines in Somló. Tornai Friss Zenit kicks off with aromas of pear and peach on the nose and continues with very refreshing fruity flavors on the palate. Fine acidity supports the fruity taste delivering a truly refreshing light summer wine. Besides the freshness there is richness of flavors and aromas with plenty of excitement on the finish.
