The „Vineyard of Budapest” offers endless opportunities to enjoy wine, and from now Etyeki Kúria, a state-of-art winery has even more to offer. Their new event venue has just been inaugurated, a new orange wine has been released, and the whole programme of their annual summer event, ChardonNite has been announced.

Kúria Pavilon – up to 200 people

Etyeki Kúria has been an ideal place to give an insight into the traditional winemaking in their old cellar and at the same time intothe most modern techniques just opposite the narrow street on Öreghegy (’Old Hill’). Now with the brand new Kúria Pavilon altogether 4 venues are available for every kind of event. The old cellar and the wine bar are ideal for small groups, while the Glass Hall can seat 60–80 people, with the terrace up to 120, and the new Pavilon is suitable up to 200 people. Both Glass Hall and Kúria Pavilon are equipped with a catering kitchen suitable for the most complex gala dinners. But Etyeki Kúria offers more than just eating and wine tasting, companies aiming to have an unforgettable team building can choose from several creative programmes like chocolate making, „nose training”,blending their own wine, treasure hunting and even art programmes. Etyek is the home of large movie studios, many American box office hits were shot there, and this inspired a special programme: participants can create their own movie and after lunch and tasting they can watch the edited short movies, and of course they will receive their well deserved Academy Awards.

22 June – ChardonNite again

Etyek wine region has an ideal mesoclimate for Chardonnay variety, and the wineries are well aware of this fact. Though after the huge success of the variety there was a counter trend not to drink Chardonnay (ABC – all but Chardonnay). Etyeki Kúria however kept on having a good relationship with Chardonnay, and to express their adoration they created an event dedicated to the varietal. At the shortest night of the year (St. John’s night or Szent Iván as it is called in Hungary, this year on 22 June) Etyeki Kúria offers a walk around tasting with several invited guest wineries all presenting their Chardonnay wines, including wines from Burgundy. This year a masterclass will also take place presented by Dániel Ercsey introducing Chardonnay wines from different countries of the Carpathian Basin. The event later turns into an amazing relaxed party– it is really worth staying. Free shuttle is provided for ticket holders, tickets cost 12 000 HUF (37 euros)

Orange wine – a „Mérész project”

Sándor Mérész, chief winemaker of Etyeki Kúria started to work for the winery – after gaining immense international experience – exactly 10 years ago. The first méthode traditionnelle sparkling wine to celebrate has already been bottled to start the second fermentation, but other experimental projects are also carried on led by Sándor Mérész. One of the fruits of his creativity is an orange wine made of Pinot Gris. The bunches were picked by hand, after destemming the must was kept on the skin for 10 days– to obtain flavours and the typical colour. The wine was then aged in second and third use Hungarian and French oak. Very limited production: only 1300 bottles were filled without clarification and filtration. Fruity and floral nose with pink grapefruit, candied orange peel and red cranberries. The palate is also fruity and complex with sour cherry, blood orange, orange peel, clove and cinnamon. The chief winemaker’s project includes other wines as well, all in very limited production. His Zenit is still available from the webshop, but for other wines of the project you must visit Etyeki Kúria. Sweet burden…
