Great architecture, fabulous wines

The House of Parliament of Hungary is the largest governing building of the continent of Europe (London’s Houses of Parliament is bigger, but it is not on the continent as strictly as that), and the third largest House of Parliament in the world. It is situated on the bank of the river Danube, and the magnificent building is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. The Holy Crown of the ancient kings is exhibited in here. The Parliament itself had lacked its own selection until last year, but the unacceptable hiatus of the gathering of the representatives has finally been cured.
The first wine selection took place last year, the 8 winners of the contest are served at Parliament receptions. If you happen to be a guest in the Hungarian Parliament, and there is a fresh, easy to drink, crispy white in your glass, it must be an Olaszrizling 2015 by Kristinus Wine Estate, South Balaton. Green apple and herb notes on the nose, a hint of almond in the aftertaste. Great balance, refreshing acidity.

If you are tasting a luscious, golden colour dessert wine, it is surely a Grand Tokaj Tokaji Aszú 6 puttonyos 2013. Jammy plum and apricot combined with refreshing fruitiness on the palate. Full bodied wine with great complexity and length, with the perfect balance of alcohol and sugar. It fills the mouth with endless juiciness.

New entries are welcome

Wines can be nominated until 18 March in 8 categories, exactly like last year. The categories: Olaszrizling (as known as Welschriesling), Furmint or Furmint based blends, other white wines (made of any of the indigenous varieties of Hárslevelű, Juhfark, Ezerjó and Kéknyelű), Kékfrankos (as known as Blaufrankisch), Bikavér (or as it was used to be called, the Bull’s Blood), Cabernet Franc, Kadarka, Tokaji Aszú dessert wine. Results are expected to be announced in May.
