10 great wines to remember #8
Valér Bock, the founder József Bock’s son has had several stunning wines, and he well proved his worthiness to follow his father’s steps. BV Alta 2021 is a special wine, a new release of the estate, and the name ‘Alta’ is undoubtedly correct: high altitude vineyards (280 m), high in quality, and yes, high in price, but that’s life…
BV Alta 2021
The wine was chosen the Wine of the Month at Vince wine magazine, since it received the highest scores among new releases in the November issue. 50% Cabernet Franc from Makár vineyard and 50% Merlot from Várerdő vineyard. Matured in oak barrels for 22 months.
Vince tasting panel review:
“Deep ruby colour. Complex, matured nose with toasty and balsamic notes, prune and forest fruits. Full bodied wine with refined acidity, great balance and integrated tannins. The palate is also abundant in plummy notes, plum jam and forest fruits along with definite barrel notes.”
The wine received gold medal at Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in 2025. Retail price on the webshop of the winery is 48 000 HUF / 125 EUR.
