Californian creators of Cab Franc Day go to Villány

Franc & Franc event, 23–24 November

As we reported earlier, Cabernet Franc Day was created by a Californian couple, the owners of Dracaena Wines to express their love of the grape variety. This year Lori & Michael Budd will make a presentation as part of Franc & Franc event in Villány, South of Hungary. The two day session is a must for lovers of the variety with lectures and tutored tastings on the first day and winery visits with a tasting of more than 40 Cabernet Franc wines on the second day.

This year’s special guest: New World

The 4th Franc & Franc Forum will take place on the 23rd November in the conference hall of Bock Cellar in Villány. The exciting program includes an unforgettable masterclass showcasing the three levels of Villányi Franc classification with 3 classicus, 6 premium and 3 super premium Cabernet Franc wines from Villány. The afternoon session begins with the presentation of Peter McCombie Master of Wine, who is based in the UK, but who comes from New Zealand and has a deep knowledge of New World wines.

Tickets cost 16 900 HUF and include the whole day program with coffee breaks and lunch.

From cellar to cellar all day long

On Saturday participants leave the conference hall for exploring the heart of the sourthernmost wine region of Hungary. Five wineries host other guest wineries and welcome visitors during the day, offering altogether more than 40 Cabernet Franc wines from Villány and from New World guest wineries. Tickets cost 18 900 HUF and include transfer between the wineries, the tasting of all the wines, finger food, lunch, a tasting glass, a tasting booklet and a souvenir from Villány. A Villányi Franc dedicated to Zsigmond Teleki

Csányi Winery is one of the host wineries of Franc & Franc tasting day. The largest wine estate of Villány is a quality orientated winery with a strong focus on Cabernet Franc. Their Chateau Teleki Villányi Franc is named after Zsigmont Teleki, the famous grape scientist, founder of the winery. Mediterranean, spicy character in its nose with forest fruits and a hint of smoky, woody notes. The palate is dominated by fruits as well. Well composed structure and long finish.”
