Goose & wine dinner at Matador, Haraszthy Winery

Saint Martin is celebrated all over Hungary, since the famous bishop of the Roman nempire was born in a Roman province which is a Hungarian town now (Savaria was the Roman name, now Szombathely). Matador, the renewed steak restaurant of Haraszthy welcomes its guests with a special wine dinner on 9 November (Saturday), dedicated to the animals associated with Saint Martin, the geese. Since this is the season of new vintage wines, guests will be greeted with 2019 vintage Sir Irsai and Pinot Noir Rosé, and then 4 courses arrive with their wine pairings. The appatizer is shrimp bisque – fried shrimp wrapped in potato spaghetti, spinach, fava beans, green harassa – and is accompanied with Haraszthy Chardonnay 2017, then comes the obligatory goose liver with pear boiled in wine, paired with Öreghegy Cuvée 2016. The main course is goose leg confit with cabbage, betroot, dried red cranberries, cracklings, the pair is the magnificent Öreghegy Pinot Noir 2015. As dessert, guests will receive brownie with a Malbec from Haraszthy’s Argentin sister winery. Öreghegy Pinot Noir is a lovely, elegant wine with cherry color. „Primal fruitiness on nose, accompanied by some roasted scent. On the palate besides the sour cherry you will find the presence of chocolate, tobacco and bold notes produced by barrel ageing. Aftertaste is medium-long, spicy.” The price of the dinner is 19.900 HUF / person (61 euros), booking is necessary.
