Lajver Cserszegi Pálinka – the most delicious “winter coat”
Lajver has recently released its brand new spirit made of pure Cserszegi Fűszeres grape. It is definitely the best treat in the cold of January.
In Hungary we often dub our national spirit ‘pálinka’ the ‘liquid winter coat’. The explanation is logical: pálinka keeps you warm like a furred winter coat.
Pálinka is a strictly controlled product, it has to be made of 100% fruit and has to be distilled within Hungary.
Lajver Cserszegi Pálinka – grape captured
Cserszegi Fűszeres is an indigenous Hungarian grape. The name is a real tongue twister, it comes from the village ‘Cserszeg’, while the second word, ‘fűszeres’ means ‘spicy’. Indeed, Cserszegi Fűszeres is a grape rich of aromas and flavours. Its wine is a popular summer wine with luscious grapey flavours. Lajver Wine Estate grows a significant amount of Cserszegi Fűszeres, their most loved white Lajver Cuvée Blanc is a blend of 60% Sauvignon Blanc and 40% Cserszegi Fűszeres – a rare combination, but it works!
The new ‘baby’ shows the typical notes of the variety: lovely fruits and spices on the nose with citrus notes and herbs. The palate is complex and full of floral notes (also typical of the variety) with some pleasant bitterness of citrus fruits. A youthful, vivid spirit.
It may be fun to taste it along with Cuvée Blanc from Lajver – both the wine and the spirit features the enchanting characteristics of this unique variety! Alcohol: 43%
