Taste the „Mountain Wines” of Badacsony this Saturday!

Mountain Wine is a complex, matured, single vineyard white wine made of Olaszrizling around lake Balaton. GastroPicnic is a series of events organized to draw attention to the all year attractions of Balaton, the largest lake of Central Europe. The next event is a wine and food tasting on 8 December on Badacsony mountain. The venue is indoor and outdoor at the same time: a huge tent overlooking the winter Balaton (in the car park of frissTerasz). Guests can taste wines, gourmet bits, cakes, palinka – all from local vendors. Artisan products like bread by „Búzalelke” (The Soul of the Wheat) bakery or peach–mint–white chocolate jam by Nanett. The food is to be paid for individually, but all the „Mountain Wines” of Badacsony will available for tasting for only 1000 HUF (3 euros). 9 wineries of Balaton will pour their Mountain Wines at a separate booth so that visitors can get an overall picture of this relatively new category of the region.

An organic Mountain Wine

Organic Dobosi Family Winery makes its Mountain Wine from a triangle shaped vineyard, therefore the wine is called Háromszög (Triangle), and like all Mountain Wines, it is made of Olaszrizling. „Medium intense, matured character on the nose with apples and pears. Full bodied wine with silky texture. Refined wine with zesty acidity, good balance and some oaky tones.”

Climb the mountains of the world!

A side event is a masterclass in BonVino Wine Hotel conducted by Attila Fiáth DipWSET to show great examples of Mountain Wine from renowned wine regions (Chablis, Rhone, Kremstal, Pfalz and Marlborough), tickets for the tasting of 10 wines are available in limited quantity for 9900 HUF (30 euros). Guests will be transferred to the venue of the masterclass by Tekergő, a tiny electric bus operated on Badacsony.
