The „Beauty Queen” of the Month from Eger

VinCE Magazine, Hungary’s market leading print wine magazine is published monthly, and famous for its rigorous and reliable panel tastings. This month – August issue – the best of the new release section is a dry white wine made of Leányka indigenous grape. What’s the news in in? Well, the fact, itself. A full bodied red wine or a botrytised sweet wine as well as a vintage méthode traditionelle sparkling wine has a good chance to reach the top, but for an aromatic, easy going dry white the „good value” is the usual top evaluation. This month a dry white from Eger could prove that a wine does not need to be a heavy weight champion to win.

Egri Leányka – The Beauty Queen

’Leányka’ is an indigenous grape from Hungary, very popular in Eger wine region, one of the most common grapes of Egri Csillag, the white blend of the region.
Egri Leányka by Egri Borvár – Tóth Ferenc Winery has achieved the Wine of the Month position with: **** 16,40 points (out of 20). As the experts of the panel tasting say: it has a medium intense greenish yellow colour. The nose is reminiscent of ripened, fresh, juicy peach. The palate follows the nose with its richness of fruits. Great intensity again on the palate with a good body, zesty notes and long lasting finish.
