Wine of the week: Egri Kadarka Superior 2018

We are – like many others – staying closed in quarantine. Telling stories, playing games and thanks God, tasting good wines. This Kadarka from Tóth Ferenc Winery is a beautiful example of the variety. Spicy and scented on the nose, and adorable, silky texture, a full basket of raspberry on the palate. This wine is the best red wine in this month’s issue VinCE Magazine: “Good intensity and complexity, distinctly fruity with sour cherries and spices. Medium body, silky texture and sour cherry flavour. Vivacious acidity. A great wine made with attention.” This wine is the first superior Kadarka wine of the winery. Excellent grapes were harvested from ‘Tihamer Cru’. Thanks to ideal yield control the result is a nice, concentrated wine with all characteristic features of the variety. Fermentation in stainless steel tank, maceration for 15 days with pump over. After pressing 2 weeks settling then ageing in 20 hl barrels for 9 months. Racking and fining in September, bottling in November. Total production: 5400 bottles. The bottle is the new community Eger bottle of distinct shape.
