3 more Hungarian wineries not to miss at Prowein

As we announced earlier, wines of more than 60 Hungarian wineries will be available at Prowein in Düsseldorf this year (March 17–19). 39 of the wineries will exhibit personally, while the others will be represented by community booths. As the grandiose event is coming closer, we recommend three more wineries to visit in Hall 15, stand 15H03.

Kristinus – the state-of-art wine estate from Lake Balaton

The estate building offers breathtaking sight, it is spectacular especially when the sun shines on the surface of the building, it is worth a visit any time (the estate has a superb in site bistrot and some rooms to stay plus a wine movie!), but it is not only the architecture, the wines are also more than remarkable. Their Pinot Noir Sommelier 2015 is really a must to taste! A perfect gastro wine as the name suggests. „Matured and cooked strawberry with jammy character of red fruits and also some forest minerality is coming. Cinnamon, nutmegand cloves are also strong elements of the wine. Complex nose with warm spices and moderated barrel notes.”

Grand Tokaj – from entry level dry Furmint to Aszú

The previously state owned Tokaj winery has changed a lot as a consequence of huge investments both in modernization and human resources. Do you remember Károly Áts, who made a 100-score Tokaji Esszencia (vintage 1999) at Hugh Johnson’s Royal Tokaji winery? The result is legendary, the American Wine & Spirits magazine has given 100 points for the first time in its history. Then he received 100 points from Robert Parker for another Tokaji Esszencia (2007). Well, now he is the chief winemaker at Grand Tokaj and as expected, he makes great wines. His 2003 Grand Tokaj 6 puttonyos Tokaji Aszú is again a masterpiece. „Jammy plum and apricot combined with refreshing fruitiness on the palate. Full bodied wine with great complexity and length, with the perfect balance of alcohol and sugar. It fills the mouth with endless juiciness.”

Taschner – rare varieties and stunning sparklings from Sopron

Kurt Tascher is a young and ambitious winemaker, he is obsessed with his work, and it’s great. If you ever listen to him talking about his cherished Korai Piros Veltelini, you will understand what we mean by being obsessed. But thanks to this obsession we have learnt the name of this rare variety. He also makes incredibly elegant bottle fermented sparkling wine, a white made of Chardonnay and another one made of indigenous Irsai Olivér. His Chardonnay Brut sparkling wine is probably the most successful and most highly rated: „straw yellow colour with medium intensity. Subtle perlage. Lovely nose with excellent structure: ripened fruits, a touch of stone fruits, restrained yeasty character. Delicate mousse on the palate with balanced acidity.”
