Hotel Gellért – a house with gastronomic buzz

Next Thursday one of Budapest’s most stunning hotel will host an informal sparkling tasting, Hotel Gellért, which is an ideal place to stay anyway. The hotel is in the historic Buda district just the river Danube near Szabadság bridge. Gellért spa is one of the most spectacular spas of the city, to spend a day here is surely an unforgettable experience. The hotel is eager to be a wine and gastronomy centre, its regular events attract hundreds of local gourmet visitors besides the hotel residents. The hotel’s annual event celebrating St Martin is a 3 day festivity worth participating.

Indigenous grapes with bubbles

More than 40 wines will be available to taste, and here is just a few you should not miss.

  • Thummerer Brut, Eger, 2013

A great quality méthode traditionnelle sparkling wine made of mostly Királyleányka grape from the cooler Eger region, from Vilmos Thummerer Winemaker of the Year 1995. Besides Királyleányka Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are blended into the brut nature wine, which proved to the best in several tastings

  • Frittmann Gold Brut, Kunság, 2013

Again a méthode traditionelle sparkling from indigenous: this one is made of Ezerjó from Kunság region: again from a Winemaker of the Year 2007 and Winery of the Year 2015– János Frittmann. This is the only bottle fermented sparkling wine made of Ezerjó – at least we have not heard another one – with a nose of apple, pear and toasty notes. Creamy texture, nice bubbles, grapefruit and herbs in the finish.

  • Gyöngy Fehér, Kristinus, South Balaton, 2016

A refreshing, juicy, lovely areated wine from the south of Balaton, from the state of art Kristinus wine estate. The grapes: Chardonnay, Irsai Olivér, Sauvignon Blanc, Sárgamuskotály (Muscat Lunel). „Fresh nose with green apple and peach. Vibrant wine with tiny bubbles and crispy acidity, good intensity” (15.70 points out of 20.00 by VinCE Magazine).
