bock sweet late harvest harslevelu

Sweet Bock Hárslevelű – new release!

According to many wine experts, Hárslevelű grape has even more potential than Furmint, which is often dubbed the flagship white variety of Hungary. Hárslevelű probably has more ageing potential, and it is as versatile as Furmint. In fact they are relatives: according to some recent DNA researches Furmint is the parent of Hárslevelű. No wonder the child overachieves the parent in some aspects… József Bock has just released the 2017 vintage in very limited edition.

Hárs = Linden

Its name is literally ‘linden leaf’ and comes from the shape of the leaf which resembles that of the tree. Its wine is more aromatic than Furmint with delicate linden honey aromas, sometimes elderflower. Elegant, subtle wine can be made from Hárslevelű with refined acidity, creamy texture and a touch of spices.

It is widely planted all over the country, it can be found even in the southern Villány. Late to ripen, like Furmint, but with looser bunches. It has a thicker grape skin meaning that in dry vintages the botrytis attack it more slowly.

Bock’s limited edition sweet venture

For the dessert wine late harvested grape came from Göntér vineyard (Villány wine region) from 40 year old vines. The fermentation took place in stainless steel and then it matured in small oak barrel for 18 months.
Deep golden colour. Charming nose with linden honey and apricot tree flower. Luscious honey and apricot on the palate. The residual sugar (81.7 g/l) is brilliantly balanced with the subtle acidity.
Serve it chilled (8–10 °C) with desserts. Only 2150 bottles were made. Retail price: 7 euros.
