Euronews article chasing the success of Hárslevelű grape

Kata Zsirai, the Young Winemaker of the Year (2018) is interviewed in Tom Pears’s article on Euronews. Though Lake Balaton is not situated in Tokaj wine region, but apart from this mistake the yournalist is absolutely right when speaking about the rising importance of Hárslevelű grape. As Pears wrote: „Kata won the Hungarian young winemaker of the year last year. One of the reasons for this acclaim is because of her commitment to using indigenous grape varieties, she stated ‘the magic of Tokaj is that you canexperiment’. In particular she has helped raise the profile of the Hárslevelű grape, which has long been in the shadow of the more popular and numerous Furmint grape, long considered the essential component of Tokaji wine. This new wave of dry Tokaji wine is zesty, with a tart acidity and bone dry finish and hasn’t gone unnoticed across the globe. ”Zsirai Hárslevelű is mandatory to taste, a stunning wine indeed.„ Medium gold colour. Typical linden flower on the nose with peach and citrus notes. It’s really refreshing on the palate: crispy acidity, fruitiness and a hint of minerality from the terroir.”
