Furmint bubbles in Spain
Chateau Dereszla Prestige Reserve at a tasting in Catalonia
There is a small Catalan town where there are less than 13 000 inhabitants with more than 85 sparkling wine estates. It is called Sant Sadurní d’Anoia. If we leave out the kids, roughly there is a sparkling winery for each hundred people. Here people can appreciate sparkling wine. And recently a Hungarian sparkling wine has been presented as well by Xavier Roig wine expert (in pink T-shirt above with the Dereszla bottle), one of the best sommeliers of Spain.
The annual summer series of sparkling wine masterclasses is a big thing, tickets are sold out quickly. This year there was a tasting of international sparkling wines and the line-up included some precious names like Alfred Gratien Champagne and Hunter’s Wine from New Zealand along with a Prosecco and a Franciacorta. And a sparkling wine made with the traditional method from Tokaj wine region in Hungary, made of Furmint, our flagship white grape. The elegant, fruity sparkling wine with integrated bubbles and with its unique taste of the Tokaj terroir was received well – we are grateful to Xavier Roig for the great presentation. Chateau Dereszla Prestige Reserve is made of 100% Furmint grape and it spent 14 months on the lees, in the bottle.

Any Dereszla wines in Spain? Yes!
Dear Spanish winelovers, I have a piece of bad and a piece of good news: at the moment the Furmint bubbly is not available in Spain, however, you can buy the “king of the wines, wine of the kings ” from Dereszla imported by Vila Viniteca. You can find several products, for example two vintages of dry Furmint, which is a novelty from Tokaj, also Eszencia, which is something super unique (318.90 euros / 0.25 L), and of course Tokaji Aszú, the noble sweet wine of Tokaj. The Tokaji Aszú is also available at the wine shop of Xavier Roig’s family called Cal Feru.
