In February several events are organized with the same objective: to put Furmint variety in the limelight. As we wrote, a Furmint Tasting for the trade will be conducted in London on 30 January, and hopefully due to the tasting in February many British restaurants will offer Furmint by the glass. In Budapest, the largest Furmint tasting takes place on 7 February at Agricultural Museum in Vajdahunyad Castle. More than 200 Furmint wines will be poured from about 100 wineries from all over Hungary. Tornai Winery from Somló, Kovács Nimród Winery from Eger, Zoltán Szabó from Pécs wine region are just some of the great wineries worth visiting, and of course Tokaj will well be represented by Béres Vineyard, Dereszla Winery, Grand Tokaj, Patricius Wine House, Zsirai Winery and by many other famous estates. Dereszla Furmint is a superb example of the variety made of grapes harvested from Lapis, Dereszla, Zsadány, Teleki and Napos vineyards, the fruit is hand harvested, and the wine is fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks. „Green apple and citrus aromas ont he nose, while on the palate fresh fruits can be discovered. Mineral character with firm, crispy acidity.”
