Mundus Vini Gold for Etyeki Kúria Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc!

The results of Mundus Vini Spring Tasting are out, and Hungary is really proud to announce 20 gold medals this year! According to the 260 experts judging more than 7500 wines, overall quality has risen considerably. Some Hungarian gold medals certainly went to sweet wines of Tokaj, some others were received by full bodied red wines of Villány. What might be surprising: a new sparkling entry/wine was awarded gold as well! Etyek, a cool climate wine region next to the capital of Hungary is working on its new denomination of bottle fermented sparkling wines, the so called Etyeki Pezsgő (Sparkling Wines of Etyek). Etyeki Kúria, a cutting edge winery is fond of sparklings as well, this one is a special one vinified with a method similar to that of Asti. “A variety dear to our heart, a restless winemaker and an experiment: we fermented the Sauvignon Blanc must in tank, aged it for two months on fine lees. The result: brut sparkling wine, fruitiness captured in a bottle.” Sparkling Sauvignon can be tasted tomorrow (29 February) free of charge at the winery.
