Poets, musicians, wines, love and peace – Villány, Devil’s Cauldron

As we wrote last year, whatever you read about Hungary and its politicians, still there is hope, and this hope is all around you if you visit Ördögkatlan (Devil’s Cauldron) cross cultural festival in Villány wine region on 30 July – 3 August. The festival is built around a legend most detectable at Vylyan Vineyard and Winery, one of the venues of the festival. Vylyan hosts conterts, round table discoussions and exhibitions at their wonderful terrace with magnificent view of the vineyards. „Life boats on a sinking ship – gipsies in Hungary” is the theme of the exhibition of this year, but visitors can also see the barrels decorated by contemporary artists during the past decade. Festival goers can refresh themselves with lovely, crispy wines of the region, and the prices are set, so no need to walk a lot to find a better price. Once you are at Vylyan terrace, taste ’Macska’ (’Cat’) made of 100% of indigenous Portugiser. „A thirst-quenchingly fruity, nice, and easygoing wine that “purrs” and flatters – a wine that feels good to drink every day. The varietal specific red berries on the nose are rounded off by a combination of sour cherry, plum and sloe on the palate. Its tannins are soft and velvety.”
