SOLUS 2023

Description: Extremely dark, almost black core with purple tinges at the rim. The slow moving legs indicate high viscosity. Amazing complexity with saline, mineral notes intermingling with fruit and sweet spices. The palate is dominated by aromas of plums, raspberries and sour cherries complemented by notes of dark chocolate and coffee. Description

After a visit to Tuscany in the second half of the 1990s, Attila Gere felt he had found

the style of wine that best suited his tastes. Following the careful planting, Merlot has

demonstrated that it is a variety capable of producing miracles in the Villány terroir, wines

whose grandeur and elegance could be measured against the standards of the world’s

greatest. The first Solus was born in 2000.

This Merlot comes from the rocky, south-facing Kopár Hill, probably the most revered of

all the Villány vineyards. Here the grapes are exposed to the sun all day and the warm,

slightly rocky limestone soil contributes to their quality. The grapes for the wines produced

here are harvested up to 2-3 weeks earlier than most of the other plots, yet always retain

their intensity and vibrancy. Carefully selected 300-litre new Hungarian oak barrels

provide the elegant and well-integrated spice notes that complement the long finish of this

opulent Merlot.

”Black red, really finely concentrated Merlot and better tannins than expected,

will be a total vineyard wine of stunning quality. 18,5 points.”

Steve Spurrier, January 2021

“The A.GERE Solus is totally 21st century in the best possible sense!100 points.”

Stuart Pigott, May 2026

Solus 2021 earned 97 points from Falstaff magazine, placing it in the top tier of European

Merlots in their 2025 February–March issue. It shared this elite category with icons like

the 2021 Masseto, 2023 Le Pin, and 2022 Petrus — confirming that Solus belongs among

the continent’s finest.
