Spend the shortest night of the year with Chardonnay

ChardonnNITE, Etyeki Kúria, 23 June

The night of „Szent Iván” (or Saint John) is the shortest night of the year, so why should anyone go to bed? Etyeki Kúria initiated a Chardonnay focused wine event years ago, and it got immensely popular quickly. The name of the event is witty: combination of the words Chardonnay and night (in Hungarian ChardonnÉJ).

If you want to participate, hurry to get one of the tickets available in limited quantity. Etyeki Kúria invites guest wineries, thus guests will have the chance to taste several stunning Chardonnay wines from 5 pm to 9 pm (the entrance ticket entitles participants for unlimited tasting). After the tasting Padam concert and DJ will entertain guests – certainly with more wine and other delicacies.
Tickets cost 10 000 HUF (32 euros) and include the tasting, bus transfer from and to Budapest and the late night programmes.

Some of the participating wineries and their Chardonnays

Etyeki Kúria Chardonnay 2015, Etyek wine region

Of course you must taste the host’s wine! The nose begins with subtle butter notes and toasted nuts followed by citrus aromas. On the palate it is soft and creamy, elegant, zesty acidity and wonderful fruity character. Full bodied, complex wine with long finish.

Babarczi Chardonnay 2016, Pannonhalma wine region

This Chardonnay comes to you from one of Győrújbarát’s most primely located vineyards on Baron Hill. Its aroma and flavour is one of perfect freshness, oozing fruitness with underlying signature mineral notes. A beautifully integrated bouquet of pear, apple and floral combine with a delicious acidity that explodes in your mouth. It pairs well with fish dishes, roasts or can be enjoyed on its own.

Gróf Buttler Egri Chardonnay 2015, Eger wine region

The wine has bright golden colour. Mineral notes on the nose with stoned fruits and spices. A dry wine with vibrant acidity. (Gróf Buttler Estate website is under construction, and this Chardonnay is not listed on our website, but you can read about the estate.)

Sauska Birsalmás Chardonnay 2013, Tokaj wine region

Though Tokaj cannot be mentioned on the label, because Chardonnay is not allowed under Tokaj appellation, this unique wine benefits from the fabulous soil structure of Tokaj. Pale yellow with sweet, crisp pear and honey aromas. Wonderfully tight and focused dominated by the typical salty minerality of Birsalmás-vineyard. Apple, pear and pink pepper lead the mouthfeel and lead to the long finish. Born to accompany a classic fish, like trout with butter-parsley fingerling potatoes.
