Taschner Chardonnay – the best white wine of Sopron

Taschner Chardonnay – the best white wine of Sopron

The county of Győr-Sopron-Moson has announced the results of its wine contest. 85 wines were evaluated, and the best red wine is from the village of Nyúl by Hangyál Winery, it is a blend called Torpedó, while the best white wine is Taschner Chardonnay 2016 from Sopron. The very same wine has been chosen the wine of Volt Festival, a rock festival in Sopron. Chardonnay is an important variety for Kurt Taschner, owner of the winery, since he makes a superb méthode traditionnelle sparkling wine as well. The outstanding contest results proves that he is good at still white wines, too. Sopron wine region is on the north west of Hungary, a region with cooler climate, limestone and slate soil. The city of Sopron is worth a visit with its wonderful historic downtown. If you are there, do not miss Taschner Winery and Sparkling Wine House, Kurt will present a portfolio tasting with rare varieties like „Korai Piros Veltelini”. The winery is open on weekdays, but for a tasting it is advised to write in advance.
