We are often said to be the country of festivals, and indeed we dedicate a festival to everything from strawberry to pumpkin. Still there are some events which emerge from this oversupply, and the brand new Vinalia in Baja is a promising gastronomic event. Baja is a small town on the south of Hungary, it lies on the Serbian, Croatian and Hungarian border, and since several nations have been living together for centuries,people are mixed and open minded, gastronomy is varied and reflects the meeting of different cultures. The location of the outdoor event is the picturesque promenade of Sugovica (a tributary of the river Danube), and the promenade is surrounded by wonderful Gemenc forest, the largest floodplain forest in Europe. The event takes place on 21–23 June, and visitors can meet wineries like Sauska (Tokaj and Villány), Géza Balla(Ménes, Romania) or Koch Winery from Hajós–Baja wine region. Two wines of Koch Winery have just been selected for the title „The Wine of The Hungarian Academy of Science”. Csanád Cuvée 2012 has the nose of „punch and vanilla with fruits like blueberry and blackberry. Then behind them we can discover a kind of ‘propolis’note resulting from bottle aging. On the palate vanilla is still dominant accompanied by sweet, dark berry fruits and spices. Significant body, relatively high alcohol, integrated tannins, soft acidy form the wonderful composition of this wine.”
