Corney & Barrow mixed case Barta Furmint

Try something new with Corney & Barrow’s (UK) Staff’s Mixed Case

“If Sauvignon Blanc is your go-to, try our fabulously refreshing Furmint, from the talented Barta winery in Hungary.” Well said. A mixed case like the one above is a delicious way to discover new gems, to leave the beaten track for something exciting, unknown. Though Furmint variety is getting more and more popular in the United Kingdom – due to the hard work and smart campaign of Wines of Hungary UK –, there are still more words to spread.

Barta Cellar is situated in the village of Mád, the crown of Tokaj wine region, its vineyards include the steep, historic ‘Öreg Király’ (‘Old King’). Wines from the estate has gained countless international accolades and wine writers praised them on many different platforms – just to mention one: Tamlyn Currin from JancisRobinson.com started the review of Barta Öreg Király Furmint with “OMG”

“Sun-kissed rocks”

“Egy Kis Furmint 2019”, the wine included Corney & Barrow’s recent Staff Picks Mixed Case is a dry Furmint. “Egy kis” means “A little”, since it aims to be an easy going, ultimately refreshing wine. According to C & B staff: Refreshing pear and lime on the nose. The palate offers incredible purity of fruit, with flavours of yellow plum, green apple and lime, accented by saline minerality.Amy Wislocki from Decanter magazine also praised the wine: “A delightful introduction to dry Furmint, this will appeal to Sauvignon Blanc lovers in need of adventure. It’s very pale in colour, and made in a linear, restrained style. Fragrant, mineral and textured: salted lemons and sun-kissed rocks. Would be perfect with monkfish risotto.”
