4 gold medals for Teleki wines at Berliner Wine Trophy

Outstanding success for Villány winery

Berliner Wine Trophy Summer Tasting results have not been announced officially – we contacted the organizers and they promised to upload the full list of medal winners soon. Meanwhile we can celebrate an outstanding result: Csányi Winery have won 4 gold medals at the largest OIV international wine contest.

The shiny winners are:

Teleki Selection Kékfranos 2019
Kővilla Válogatás Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
Teleki Tradíció 1881 Pinot Noir Rosé BRUT 2018
Csányi Selection VESPER 2017

These recent medals again prove the versatility of the winery, and the fact that the largest winery of Villány is not only capable of making great price value wines. Teleki Selection Kéfrankos costs only 1999 HUF (less than 5 euros) and apart from the accolade of this entry level wine, the mostly on trade sold Kővilla Cabernet and the bottle fermented rosé sparkling wine have been appreciated as well. And we must mention VESPER, the shiny star of the winery – a flagship wine made only in the best vintages.

The shiniest star of Teleki wines

Vesper meaning evening in latin also refers to Venus at sunset, the shiniest star of the sky. Another meaning is the prayer monks pray when the evening comes. Well, just as the evening prayers protect our soul, so does this wine from Csányi Winery (Villány wine region) with its pampering velvety texture and its complexity of aromas and flavours. The new premium wine comes from the outstanding 2017 vintage – the extra high number of sunny hours and the sufficient amount of rainfall resulted healthy bunches and berries with concentrated flavours. Vesper is made of the best of the best: a blend of the best barrels from the extraordinary quality base wines. The blend is almost a Bordeaux blend with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, but Kékfrankos adds an extra character with its vibrant acidity and fruitiness.

Some part of Cabernet Sauvignon came from the famous Kopár vineyard, Merlot is from Csillagvölgy, while the majority of Kékfrankos is from Ördögárok vineyard. 85% of the wine matured in Hungarian oak, the rest in French, all barrels are 300 L. Cabernet aged in barrel for 2 years, Merlot for 28 months and Kékfrankos for 17 months. The objective was to create a wine of outmost balance and harmony in every sip of this wine.

“Vesper is not only a wine for us. It is the essence of our winemakers’ knowledge and experience, it is the manifestation of creation and the passion of our founder, Zsigmond Teleki and all the generations following him. The shiniest star of our estate with long ageing potential and potential to light up our days for a long time” – commented Csányi Winery.

Dark ruby colour. Its rich and spicy nose reveals forest fruits, plum and toast. The palate is full, velvety, rounded. Vivacious wine with sweet spices and subtle acidity. Complex, layered, structured wine with long finish boasting plenty of plums.
