Meet the “Kékfrankos fetishists” on 27 May in Mátra
The 50 shades of Kékfrankos grape variety
Gyöngyöspata is a tiny, picturesque village in the mountainous Mátra. The highest peak of Hungary, Kékes (meaning something like “blueish”) is not far from here, and the winemakers here are passionate about Kékfrankos grape, which happens to have “blue” in the name as well. Apart from the local producers several guest wineries will participate, like Steigler Cellar from Sopron and Heimann Family Estate from Szekszárd.
The following text is written by the “Kékfrankos fetishists” themselves:
“Kékfrankos variety is very important for us here in the Mátra and in Gyöngyöspata. We believe this is a very colourful variety capable of producing different wine characters here in the Carpathian basin, including Mátra and Gyöngyöspata. As we are all “Kékfrankos fetishists” here in Gyöngyöspata, we dreamed of an event focusing on this variety, which could be presented in our fantastic venue of the 7 layers cellar village of Gyöngyöspata, showing not only the wines of the winemakers of Mátra and Gyöngyöspata but inviting a nice selection from the country to show the “50 shades of Kékfrankos”, being red, siller, or rose or even a cuvee based on Kékfrankos. We forsee an excellent weather on this weekend of May giving the best opportunity to wonder around in the cellar village, taste wine and try the local cuisine. If the guests gonna be as enthusiastic and passionate as us, we will have a good chance to make a new tradition in Pata with this event! The atmosphere which might be well known from the Volcanic Wine Fest of Gyöngyöspata will be guaranteed here as well!“
