Wine of the Weekend: Jazz, the Best Bikavér
Kovács Nimród Winery success at Vince magazine panel tasting
In the latest issue of Vince print magazine, the panel tasting featured the two blends of Eger, Egri Csillag and Egri Bikavér. Bikavér, also known as “bull’s blood” is a red blend with rigorous regulation. At the magazine’s panel tasting Kovács Nimród Winery was the only one received 5 stars in Bikavér category with their wine called Jazz.
KNW Jazz Superior Bikavér 2020, Eger
Nimród Kovács, the owner of the winery decided to include his Bikavér in the line of music-related wines along with Soul, Rhapsody, Max, Cool and Dixie. Meaning that the term Bikavér is not the first thing to address you from the label, but it is a true Bikavér corresponding with the regulations and expressing the terroir of Eger. Superior Bikavér wines should be made of at least 5 grape varieties, and have to be aged for 12 months in oak and 6 months in bottle. (Read more about the regulation here.)
The wine is made of Kékfrankos, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc and Merlot.
Vince panel tasting note:
“Dark ruby colour. Good intensity on the nose with notes of toasted nuts, spices, toast, sour cherry, plum, cherry and a pinch of paprika. Full bodied, juicy, concentrated wine with uplifting acidity and silky tannins. The palate reveals black berry fruits. A wine that is already enjoyable, and it still has a long ageing potential. Long finish.”
The retail price at Monarchia wine store is only 6490 HUF (17-18 EUR)!
