Patricius Estate Furmint – a delicious lesson

February is dedicated to Furmint in Hungary with countless tastings, and by now other countries have joined the celebration – there were and are events in France, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States. Patricius Winery in Tokaj makes a whole range of Furmint, there is an organic one, a single vineyard one and certainly there is the estate Furmint, the one that is a perfect example of the variety, a good lesson to learn Furmint. Now the 2021 vintage is on sale with perfect balance of residual sugar and acidity – look at these numbers: 7 g/L and 7.5 g/L.. “This wine boasts a distinctive fruity varietal character, complemented with a perfumed nose due to Furmint grape. The palate combines nice minerality and elegant, vibrant acidity to deliver the same fruitiness as the nose with peach and a touch of almond and make a well-balanced and easy-to-drink terroir white wine.”

For the artist’s palate and the broke student’s wallet

Rake Wine Bar is definitely an ideal place to host a by the glass adventure of wines made from Hungarian grape varieties – most of which are completely unknown for the New Yorker wine lovers. The bar was launched by in 2021, though the team behind the bas has a longer history with wine. First they opened a wine shop which soon began a kind of community place. As they say: “For the last decade, Urban Wines and Spirits has grown into a neighborhood-driven shop that caters to one of the most diverse crowds in the greatest city on earth. When creating the wine list for Rake, we drew inspiration from the whole community. Our wine list is meant to be fun, exciting, never intimidating, and always changing. It features a concise selection of carefully curated, quirky pours. We want to cater to the artist’s palate, the broke student’s wallet, and the traveler’s sense of adventure.”
And why Rake? Because a rake is a tool to gather things, just like Rake Wine Bar.
