The estate is located in the area of Siklós in the Hungarian wine region Villány. This Family-owned artisanal winery was founded in the late 1990s by the Swiss-German couple Evelyne and Erhard Heumann and gradually built up since then. The vineyards cover 12 hectares, mainly planted with the red varieties Cabernet Franc, Kékfrankos (aka Blaufränkisch), Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, but with the white varieties Riesling, Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer too.

Due to the terroir the region is perfectly suited for red varieties. In most years, the grapes ripen optimally. Cabernet Franc and the indigenous Kékfrankos (aka Blaufraenkisch) are the flagship grapes of the winery that have perfectly adapted to the terroir.  Both varieties result in outstanding wines. The vineyards are located mainly in the Siklós sub-area on south-facing slopes as well as on the Vokány plateau. The soil consists of loess and some clay, interspersed with limestone and dolomite. The climate is continental with Mediterranean influences – cold winters, but relatively hot summers. Over 90% of the Heumann vineyards owe the premium status of the DHC (Districtus Hungaricus Controllatus) Villány. The DHC requires et al a planting density of at least 5000 vines per hectare, which is exceeded with up to 7,000 vines/ha at the Heumann winery. With the red varieties yield is 1 to 1.5 kg/vine which results in 30-40 hl/ha. This is much lower as the DHC requirements that allow 60 hl/ha. Even with the white varieties the yields are reduced accordingly.

Even if the winery is not organically registered, the vineyards are treated in a respectful way. Spraying is mainly done according to organic constraints (e.g. no Glyphosate).

The annual production around 35,000 bottles, with red wines forming the major part. Some wines are produced as single varietals (Cabernet Franc, Kékfrankos, Syrah), others as cuvées (Lagona, Terra Tartaro). The red wines are matured in Hungarian barriques or tonneau (500l) which are generally used four times. Whites wines and rosé are matured steel tanks.

Muscatel and a little bit of peaches in the nose. Gorgeous grapefruit and lemon taste on the palate. Quite long.

Purple with violet rim. In the nose a hint of vanilla and sour cherries, some leather. Concentrated, elegant and complex wine with gorgeous fruit. Great body and fine tannins. Very long lasting.

Dark bright purple. Black fruits in the nose with a hint of vanilla and pepper. On the palate black berries and cassis plus a hint of dark chocolate. Well-integrated acidity and great structure with finely grained tannins. Full bodied yet elegant and fruity wine with a very long aftertaste. Great potential for further development.

Deep dark ruby color. In the nose intense aromas of oriental spices, dark chocolate, ripe black berries, and cassis. Velvety structure with fine acidity, very well balanced with integrated tannins, powerful yet elegant wine. Black berries again plus chocolate and spices on the palate. Very long lasting.
