Patricius Winery offers an unforgettable picnic any time of the week, any time of the summer. We tried it last summer with our study tour guests, and we can guarantee that this picnic is the best – and most delicious way – to discover a vineyard.

Várhegy vineyard in Bodrogkisfalud has been considered one of the most precious vineyards of Tokaj wine region for centuries. One of the most sought after “cru” has several stories and many noble families are related to it.

The vineyard tour begins at the picturesque terrace of Patricius Winery, where guests receive their picnic baskets full of products from local producers (jam made of purple onion, goat rilette, mangalitza ham, artisan cheeses, baguette). Certainly Patricius wines are also provided according to the guests’ wishes.

The tour continues with the collection of rare grape varieties and then the participants walk up the historic Várhegy vineyard. From here we can enjoy stunning view of the the surrounding vineyards, the river Bodrog – the whole breathtaking landscape which is under UNESCO World Heritage protection. Part of the tour is to introduce the different types of soils and volcanic rocks, which result distinct notes in the wines.

Guests consume the delicacies of the picnic basket on the terrace of the little vineyard shed, accompanied by well chilled Patricius  sparkling wine.
