Europe’s largest and most important wine expo begins on Sunday. Hungary will be represented with around 60 wineries in Düsseldorf, 39 of them with their own exhibitor’s booth, and the others at community booths. The Hungarian section awaits professionals with exciting topics and even more exciting wines to illustrate the topics. The renowned British Master of Wine, Tim Atkin will reveal the secrets of the world’s most noble wines: Tokaji Aszús, but many other fantastic speakers will contribute to the success of our wines. Tim Atkin’s masterclass will take place on Tuesday, 19th March (ProWein FORUM @Hall 13 / F25 – F27).

Caroline Gilby MW has visited Hungary several times, she is one of the most knowledgeble non-Hungarian professional – she was even awarded the precious title „Winemakers’ Friend’ in Hungary. Her masterclass on Monday will introduce „cool”, nothern style wines from Hungary. Hilltop Kamocsay Prémium Sárgamuskotály (Muscat Lunel) is a good example from the flight: Ákos Kamocsay, chief winemaker of Hilltop creates wines which capture the natural fruitiness of the berries. Ákos Kamocsay was chosen Winemaker of the Year both in Hungary and in the UK. Hilltop is also present in the fine wine segment with complex and age-worthy wines. Hilltop wines can proudly stand comparison with the so-called “handcrafted” wines which is confirmed by a string of excellent results in domestic and international competitions.

New trends, indigenous varieties

Caroline Gilby MW will have another masterclass comparing north and south of Balaton. Péter Molnár, estate manager of Patricius Estate will talk about traditions and new trends of Tokaj wine region with wines like Chateau Dereszla Tokaji Dry, while Ronn Wiegand MS & MW will concentrate on Furmint variety. Elizabeth Gabay MW, the „fairy godmother” of Hungarian wine people really deserves Hungarian citizenship, now she will discuss indigenous topics with wines like Koch Premium Kadarka 2015 from Hajós–Baja by Csaba Koch. Kristian Kielmayer wine expert will present local grape varieties as well, but in German. Tornai Top Ilona Olaszrizling 2011 from volcanic Somló is definitely a wine to watch in his tasting. And last, but not least Peter McCombie MW will have a joint masterclass with András Horkay to show two faces of Villány.
