Wine turns into meal – charity in Eger

“In the first wave we experienced a lot of signs of sympathy. Applause on the balconies, meals sent to us, etc. Now, in the second wave people got fed up with the pandemic, no more charity and no more applause, what we get is shouting from anxious would-be-visitors to hospital” – complained an exhausted doctor. He was insulted by a man who was not allowed to see his deceased son. Thanks God there are still good examples. The Eger Lions Club for example has teamed up with Eger Wine Workshop and some restaurants of Eger. With the help of more than 250 people donating 3.5 million HUF (10.000 euros), they delivered more than 5000 meals to medical workers.

The star of Eger, the star of goodness

The concept is simple: people donate 15.000 HUF and more, and they will get a pack of wines donated by winemakers of Eger Wine Workshop like, Bolyki, Tóth Ferenc Winery, Gál Tibor Winery or Thummerer Winery. This latter one offered wine packs of 2 bottles of Egri Csillag (‘The Star of Eger’) and 4 bottles of Egri Bikavér Classicus. Egri Csillag is the white blend of the wine region, and since Thummerer Winery loves Királyleányka grape variety, it gives the base of this blend with Sauvignon BlancTramini and Zenit. “Classic dry white wine with protected origin. This wine created from reductive conditions resulted in pointed aromas, and this intrinsic value resulted in complex wine character. Nice green-toned colours with spring flowers in the smell. Tramini and Zenit gives it structure, Királyleányka and Sauvignon Blanc gives it nice acids. It has long lasting aromas with enjoyable after-taste. This reductive wine gives high smell and rich body, which resulted in a complex character.” In the photo Egri Csillag is served with vegan pumpkin pasta (Recipe by 📷 x @gasztro_pr), but it also pairs well with poultry, fish and meals made with asparagus.
