Wine of the Week: Tóth Ferenc Eger Rhine Riesling Superior 2020

Tóth Ferenc family estate produces more red wines than white – just think of their Bikavér wines and ref blends –, yet the white line is highly successful as well. Egri Leányka Superior 2016 for example, won Mundus Vini gold medal and was selected the white winner of the 3rd Hungarian Wine Grand Prix Vintage. 2020 Rhine Riesling Superior received a new “garment” – new label and new bottle. Now let us see what the chic look covers!

Extra small volume

The fruit came from Marinka vineyard, harvest took place at the end of September 2020. Quick processing, berry-picked, gently pressing of the must, then settling and cooling for one day. Half of the pure must was fermented and matured new Hungarian barrels, the other half in third-filled Hungarian barrels until the end of May. Extremely small volume, only 603 bottles!

“Its aroma is intense, full of very ripe white and yellow fleshy fruits and elegant sweet spices. The taste is dominated by thick, complex, juicy peaches, pineapple and citrus, and with very little residual sugar, refreshing, ripe acids make this rich wine very drinkable.”

Chocolate and wine pairing in Budapest

8 Tóth Ferenc wines will find their chocolate match on 19 November in Budapest at Pasarét Club. Katalin Tóth awaits chocolate connoisseurs along with two chocolate experts, Viktória Szeleczky-Takács (Fabric Csokoládé) and Adél Bernáth-Ulcz (CsokiLaBor).
